Microsoft is trying to get a foot into the door that is PC gaming. It is trying to use Windows 8 as a medium from which users can easily buy and share games.
Although Games for Windows marketplace was all but a failure, Windows 8 will be made to start anew into PC gaming. Gaming will be a key component for the OS itself. Along with the fairly new store, Microsoft has shown clear interest in tapping into the riches of PC gaming.
Microsoft will not have an easy time, however, for Valve's Steam is dominating the PC gaming scene. Valve, the company that made the Half-Life series, along with Counter Strike, Portal and Team Fortress, has made Steam into an global hub for PC gamers. Microsoft, however, has the bonus of a larger market, and could use its extremely popular Xbox 360 to try to win over PC gamers. Windows 8 could be the beginning of a new era for Microsoft in terms of gaming.
