Game Summaries

Hello again,

Today we will be looking into my favorite game: Company of Heroes.

Overview:

Company of Heroes is a WWII real-time strategy game created by Relic Entertainment. It was released on September 12, 2006. In single-player campaign mode, the player controls two U.S. military units during the Battle of Normandy and the eventual liberation of France. In some missions, the player controls Fox Company of the 29th Infantry Division and in others, Fox Company of the 101st Airborne's 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. In "Skirmish" and multiplayer mode, players can play as Americans or Wehrmacht and British or Panzer Elite (the latter are only available if expansions are owned as well).

Gameplay:

In Company of Heroes, one wins by either controlling several "Victory Points" (circles with black stars)for a long duration or by annihilating the opponent(s).

There are three resources that all players must manage and maintain: Manpower (dotted circles), Ammunition (circles with round of ammo), and Oil (circles with oil tank). Each resource can be obtained by holding the corresponding sectors on the map by, in turn, capturing flags with troops.

Manpower is used to get new troops/vehicles, reinforce them. It also raises the population cap, allowing for more units to be built. Ammunition is used to upgrade units with better weapons/protection and call in off-map support, whether it be artillery strikes or supply drops. Oil can be used to build new vehicles and buildings (you will also need sufficient manpower).

My Opinion:

Company of Heroes is a fast paced game that never bores. The large amounts of different units, maps, gamemodes, and strategies involved keeps the game feeling new. This is my favorite game, and I'm not the only one who likes it.

Game Rankings gave the game an average score of 94% based on 61 reviews, making it the third highest rated game of 2006, the highest rated PC game of 2006 and the highest rated strategy game of all time. On Metacritic it had an average score of 93 out of 100, making it the highest rated strategy game of all time.

Have you played Company of Heroes, or even just heard of it once? If so, how did you like it or what did you hear about it? What are some other games that are similar to this one?

Very helpful review. I really want to buy this game now on Amazon or Steam. I liked how you cited statistics for user enjoyment and also the detail you went into when describing gameplay. I am VERY excited about this game and am looking forward to playing it.
